HYDRANET Project is involved with the management of the hydrological resources of the Mediterranean Basin, which is at the risk because of quantitative and qualitative degradation due to the climatic change, to the movements of the populations, the demographic pressure, the abundant use with agriculture and the urban, especially in coastal zones; the latter leads to the salinity of the ground water.
The HYDRANET Project with a series of studies and pilot projects proposes the creation of a network of which the goal is the long-term programming for the supply drinking water and the multiple use of water while contributing to the durable management of the hydrological resources to the Mediterranean basin. |
Among the partners a series of the actions will be carried out with three phases of the project.
The project proposes a transnational and interregional co-operation between the south of Europe and the south of the Mediterranean in other words between the north and the south of the Mediterranean concerning the hydrological management and the fight against turning into a desert. It takes into account the Local Agenda 21, the Protocol of Kyoto; results of the Conference of Johannesburg; the UNNCD (Convention of the United Nations) whose directive on Water recognizes the urgency, on continental scale, to develop strategies and instruments for the management durable of the hydrological resources, increasingly more threatened quantitatively and qualitatively.
The communication of the European Commission “Towards has Thematic Strategy for Water Management” recognizes in its turn the gravity of the state of the hydrological resources and the need for a strategy of adjustment of the durable hydrological resources.
The European areas and Third countries partners (Morocco, Tunisia, Lebanon, Syria) are struck by an abundant loss of the water resources because of an intensive use of water, a strategic lack of a plan of management. Plans of adjustment of the hydrological resources were put at realization on a small scale in certain areas of the countries partners but a strategy of long-term water management misses; especially a multiple use of water (e.g. use of drained water, etc).
HYDRANET with series of studies; experience sharing, pilot projects, proposes a creation of a network of which the goal is the long-term programming for the supply drinking water and the multiple use of water while contributing to the durable management of the hydrological resources to the Mediterranean basin.
